A licensed establishment must not allow a person to become intoxicated and cannot serve intoxicated patrons.

For your safety - Never leave your drink unattended.
When ordering an alcoholic beverage, bartenders in licensed establishments can only pour alcohol into a drink from its original container and it must be poured in full view of patrons.

The Holiday Season is a great time to remind patrons of the designated driver program in your establishment.
In addition to offering free non-alcoholic beverages, complimentary food to designated drivers may encourage the rest of the group to eat at the same time. This sends a great message to your patrons while increasing food sales.

Licensees can retain ID that is clearly fake and to turn it over to a liquor inspector. Return the ID if the patron insists, but a photo copy should be made and given to a liquor inspector. Police may also fine individuals $115 for using fake ID.

The new indoor smoking ban will come into effect on March 31, 2008. The new indoor ban calls for the closure of all designated smoking rooms but allows smoking on patios.
A patio is defined as an outdoor area that is not fully or substantially enclosed. Remember to check with your municipality before undergoing any renovations or building a new patio. The Government of BC regulations set a minimum standard and municipalities can implement a more stringent ban.

Not only must Serving It Right be completed by all licensees, managers, bartenders and servers but also, licensees are responsible for keeping photocopies of their employees' Serving It Right certificates available at all times for review by Liquor Inspectors.
